Description

This is a barn located about 3 meters northwest of Murzie Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations from the 17th or 18th century. The barn is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a plain tile roof. It features five timber-framed bays, with the original 17th-century section comprising three bays and two additional bays added to the left in the later 17th or 18th century. The roof is steeply pitched and hipped, with a gablet on the left side.

There is a weatherboarded porch with double doors and a hipped roof that juts out over the front, positioned at the third timber-framed bay from the right. Lean-to structures are present on both the right and left sides of the porch. Inside, the 17th-century section showcases chamfered gunstock-jowled posts, an arch-braced tie-beam, and a clasped-purlin roof featuring diminishing principal rafters, windbraces, and vertical queen struts to the collars. Tension braces and stave lath and straw daub infilling are found in the right and central bays as well as the porch. A central full-height post is located at the right gable end, jowled towards the interior of the barn. The front wall of the left bay of the 17th-century section has been removed, and the post adjusted to allow for the addition of the slightly later porch. The roof over the two left bays is similar to the rest but lacks windbraces and is constructed with smaller timber.
