Description

Little Mill Cottages is a pair of houses that were originally a farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century, with a facade added in the early 20th century. The building is timber framed, with the front elevation covered in pebbledash. The left gable end has a brick ground floor, while the right gable end is weatherboarded and pebbledashed on the first floor. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has a hipped shape.

The layout features a lobby entry plan with four timber-framed bays and a stack bay; two bays create two rooms to the left of the stack, and two bays form one room to the right. The building is two storeys high and has a multiple red and grey brick ridge stack located slightly to the right of the center. The windows are irregularly arranged and include five casements: a small two-light window on the left, another on the right, a shallow three-light oriel window on shaped brackets with heads under the eaves on either side of the stack, and a small single light beneath the stack. There is a half-glazed door in a small gabled brick porch towards the left end and another door at the rear to the right.

Inside, the cottage features exposed framing with two rectangular panels per storey, gunstock-jowled posts, chamfered beams, and edge-halved scarf joints. Each oriel window has a wooden cill and blocked two-light ovolo-moulded mullion frieze windows, along with a partly-blocked two-light ovolo-moulded mullion window beneath the stack. The interior also includes a brick fireplace with a wooden bressumer. The building was formerly known as Little Mill Farm.
