Description

This milestone, located on Worth Deal Road, dates from the late 18th century. It is a rectangular stone block, approximately 2 feet high, with a slight plinth. The stone is inscribed with the distances to Deal (4 miles) and Sandwich (2 miles) in incised and painted lettering, along with "London 70." The road was turnpiked in 1797, as noted in James Carley's work on the turnpike roads of Kent.
