Description
Milestone located on Wingham High Street, dating from the mid-18th century. It is made of painted stone and stands about 2 feet high on a plinth. The milestone is set diagonally to the road and displays distances to Canterbury, London, Sandwich, and Deal. The current painted incised inscription appears to be from the 19th or 20th century, while the two reverse planes show somewhat faded original inscriptions, indicating that the stone has been turned around and re-cut.
