Description
This milestone, dating from the late 18th century, is located on the east side of Sholden Deal Road. It is a rectangular stone block, approximately 2 feet high, featuring a slight plinth. One side of the milestone is inscribed with "Deal 3," while the opposite side displays "Sandwich 3 London 71" in incised and painted lettering. The road was turnpiked in 1797, as noted in James Carley's work on the turnpike roads of Kent.
