Description
The churchyard wall surrounding the Church of St Mary is a structure from the 17th century or earlier, with some parts dating to the 18th century. It features a base made of flint and rubble, topped with red brick. The section facing the road is approximately 6 feet high and includes a plinth, gate piers, and a simple overthrow with a lamp, extending about 50 yards and supported by buttresses. The east wall displays irregular and English Garden Wall bonds, with coping and the date 1637 highlighted in yellow brick near the church, along with some blue brick diaper work. The north wall is constructed of 18th-century red brick and has fourteen buttresses. Attached to the north is a section of the old garden wall of Wingham House, which is now partly enclosing a bowling green and stands about 12 feet high on a plinth, extending approximately 30 yards.
