Description
Old Forge House is a house dating from the 15th century. It is timber framed and rendered, with some red brick in English bond, and has a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and features a continuous jetty supported by brackets, along with a hipped roof that has gablets and stacks at the rear. On the ground floor, there are three wooden casements to the left and a large canted bay along with a smaller canted bay to the right. The entrance door consists of six raised and fielded panels with a moulded architrave to the right. To the left, there is a fine 15th-century gateway with brick piers, a four-centred arched head, and sunk spandrels. The right return of the house displays a series of medieval mullioned windows. The timber frame is exposed with plaster infill in the inner courtyard, and the rear wing ends with a kneelered parapet gable. Inside, both wings of the building feature fine moulded crown post roofs. It is reputed to be part of the houses for the canons of Wingham College. Attached to the left is a painted brick lean-to with large folding half-glazed doors, marked Kent Fire Brigade, which was used for the horse-drawn vehicle.
