Description

The Vicarage is a mid-18th century vicarage house located on School Lane in Wingham. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, built upon a basement. Architectural details include a sunk panelled plinth and a moulded wooden modillion eaves cornice. The central section projects and is topped with a pediment, containing decorative elements. The roof is hipped with four pedimented dormers, and stacks are positioned to the left and right.

The fenestration is regular, with nine 9-pane sash windows on the first floor and eight on the ground floor, all with gauged heads. The main entrance features a 6-panel door with raised and fielded panels, a traceried semi-circular fanlight, and an open pediment supported by Doric columns with entablature blocks.

The building is of generous proportions and occupies the site of Wingham College, which burnt down around 1660; foundations of the college survive within the grounds.
