Description
No. 28 High Street is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century. It features a timber-framed and rendered structure, underbuilt with red brick and red brick with mathematical tiles on the return elevations. The roof is plain tiled and the building is originally a Wealden hall house.
The house has two storeys and now includes a continuous jetty and a hipped roof with a stack on the left side. On the first floor, there are three sash windows, while the ground floor has two canted bays with glazing bar sashes on either side and a door with six raised and fielded panels accompanied by a rectangular fanlight to the right. At the rear, there is a wing with a kneelered parapet gable.
Inside, there is evidence of a cross passage and a crown post roof, with the main moulded octagonal post located in the hall area on a longitudinal beam instead of the usual transverse tie.
