Description

Milestone located on the north side of Hythe Road in Mersham, dating from the late 18th century. It is a stone block approximately 2½ feet high, featuring an iron plate that is inscribed with the distances to Ashford (2½ miles) and Hythe (9 miles). The Faversham, Hythe and Canterbury Turnpike Act, which facilitated the construction of turnpike roads, was passed in 1762.
