Description
This is a 15th-century former farmhouse, now divided into two cottages, located on The Street in Willesborough. The building is constructed of close-studded timber framing to the first floor, with a rebuilt brick ground floor. It has a clay-tiled roof. The plan is of a continuous jetty house, with a hipped roof and a large central ridge stack.
Externally, the first floor is jettied on all four sides, displaying exposed joist ends and corner brackets. Later, stepped brick brackets were added for additional support. The north-facing front elevation has four bays, featuring paired casement windows with pointed Gothic panes on the first floor. Ground floor windows are topped with square hood-moulds. The front has arched Gothic doorcases, with entrances at the far left and right of the elevation.
The building is designated at Grade II for its architectural and historic interest. It represents a well-preserved example of a substantial continuous jetty house, demonstrating late medieval vernacular building traditions. Later features of interest include the substantial ridge stack, Gothic style windows and entrances.
