Description
Hawkers Lodge is a cottage dating from the 17th century, which features an early 19th-century picturesque treatment and 20th-century renovations and extensions. The building has a timber-frame core with brick walls that are painted, and the upper parts are tile-hung with fish-scale patterns. It has a thatched roof. The cottage is three bays wide and one and a half storeys tall, with single-storey extensions set back at each end. There is an off-centre 19th-century Gothic boarded door framed by a four-centred arch. The thatch sweeps down on posts to form a porch. The windows include casements, an oriel on a moulded base, and a canted two-storey bay with stop-chamfered openings, all from the 19th century. There is an off-centre 19th-century Tudor-style chimney stack. Each end has 20th-century extensions that are set back, featuring hipped and half-hipped tile roofs.
