Description
174 and 175 Knapp Lane are two cottages that were originally part of a 17th-century building, with most of the structure dating from the 19th century. The lower walls are made of brick, while some timber framing is exposed. The upper walls are covered in tiles arranged in a fishscale pattern, with some areas rendered, and the roof is made of old plain tiles. The building has three bays and is one storey with an attic, featuring a narrow design and a jettied crosswing. There is one gabled porch and another half-glazed porch added in the 20th century. The windows have irregular placements and include cast-iron lattice casements, with an oriel window on the left gable. Gabled dormers with tiled fronts and cheeks also feature similar casements. A notable 19th-century Tudor-style chimney stack has octagonal shafts on a rectangular base. To the right, there is a single-storey extension with two bays, constructed of weatherboarding and topped with a corrugated iron roof.
