Description

The Lindens is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with an extension added in 1932. It is constructed of red brick with some blue headers and has an old plain tile roof. The building is two stories high and features a cellar, with a three-bay double pile layout. To the right, there is a set-back two-bay, two-story addition.

The front of the house has a plinth and a central early 19th-century door that has six panels, with the lower two being flush. Above the door is a 20th-century elliptical fanlight with intersecting glazing bars, all set within a solid doorcase. An open porch supported by Doric columns leads to a dentilled open segmental pediment hood. On either side of the door are 16-pane sash windows with rubbed brick heads, and above these are two similar sashes on either side of a 12-pane sash window. The building features a moulded timber cornice with widely spaced carved brackets and symmetrical, slightly projecting end stacks on both piles.

Inside, the entrance leads through a timber archway to a dog-leg staircase, which was altered in the 19th century but retains an 18th-century handrail that ramps up at the corners. There is a round-headed stair sash and a domed ceiling above, also with a moulded timber cornice. In the rear right room, there is 18th-century dado panelling and a corner cupboard.
