Description
Beehive Cottage and Kents Close is a house that has been converted into a pair of cottages. It dates from the 16th century, with a 17th-century cross-wing and was refronted in the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick, primarily in a chequerwork pattern, and features a thatched and tiled roof.
It is one and a half storeys high, consisting of three 16th-century bays with a 17th-century cross-wing to the left that projects to the rear and has been extended later. The front of the building has three 20th-century two-light leaded casements on the right side (Beehive), with remnants of brick arches above them. In the center, there is a small 18th-century two-light leaded casement, and above the other bays, there is a two-light leaded casement set in an eyebrow dormer. The left bay contains a 19th-century three-light casement with a segmental head, and above it, there is a 20th-century two-light flat-roofed dormer.
The left side of the building features a 17th-century structure that has been encased in 18th-century work and extended in the 19th century. It includes a panelled door set in a trellised gabled timber porch and three-light casements with segmental heads, along with two-light eyebrow dormers above. The roof of the right part is thatched with a ridge piece and is half-hipped to the right, with a stack located to the left of the center. There is also a ridge stack on the left wing.
