Description

Mount Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 16th century, which has been encased in brick and expanded in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The original timber-frame core features brickwork in English bond, header bond, and Flemish bond, with additional brick sections and an old plain tile roof.

The building is two stories high and consists of three bays and a smoke bay. There is an 18th-century wing at the rear of the left two bays, a 19th-century wing at the rear of the right bay and smoke bay, and a 20th-century wing added along the left end. The front has a projecting 20th-century wing on the left, which includes a door on the right side beneath a large pent-roofed hood. The left earlier bay features a two-light casement (which was formerly a doorway), while the left center bay has a four-light casement and the right bay has a three-light casement, all under segmental heads. Above these bays are two- or three-light casements. The roof is hipped to the right, and at the right end of the ridge, there is a 17th-century stack with a large rectangular base and three diamond shafts.

Inside, the frame is exposed, including a section at the rear right that has a five-light diamond-mullion window. The main body of the house features a large fireplace (partly rebuilt) and a moulded spine beam, along with chamfered beams that have cyma and bar and cyma stops.
