Description
The Old Smithy is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber-frame core that is encased in brick, along with brick additions and tile-hung gables. The roof is covered with old plain tiles. The building is two storeys high and consists of two bays from the 16th century, with a 20th-century second range added to the rear. The front of the house has a central 19th-century gabled brick porch with an archway, which leads to a six-panel top-lit door. On either side of the porch are 20th-century two-light casement windows, each with a smaller similar window above. A central ridge stack is present. Inside, the exposed framing reveals that the building was originally jettied.
