Description
Critchells Green Farmhouse is a timber-frame farmhouse, originally dating to the 17th century, with substantial alterations and extensions in the 18th century. The original core is timber-framed and was later encased in brick, with the addition of a two-bay extension to the left. It is two storeys high, with a rear outshot. The front elevation, with five bays, features an old plank door within an open-gabled timber porch, located in the passage bay and the third bay from the right. The ground floor has 19th and 20th-century 2, 3, or 4-light casement windows in each bay. The first floor has 2-light casement windows to each bay, except for a 3-light window to the left and a blank window in the passage bay. The roof is half-hipped and has a large, multi-flued stack to the right of the passage bay, a stack over the original left-hand 17th-century bay, and a projecting external stack at the left end, with a lean-to built around it.
