Description

Ruewood Farmhouse is a timber-frame farmhouse, originally dating from the 17th century, with extensions added in the late 19th century and further alterations in later years. The front of the house was rebuilt in the late 18th century using red brick, while the roof is covered with slate and plain tiles. The original layout comprised a hall range, likely of two framed bays and possibly with a baffle entry, alongside a single-bay cross-wing projecting to the rear on the left. A two-storey brick range was added in the late 19th century, projecting at right angles to the right.

The farmhouse is one storey and has an attic. The front has two segmental-headed casement windows from the late 19th century, with matching gabled eaves dormers above. A 20th-century door is situated to the far left, sheltered by a contemporary glazed porch. A red brick ridge stack, divided into two sections, is located on the right side of the ridge. The rear gable shows exposed single-purlin ends, and there is a painted brick lean-to in the angle between the gable and the main range.

Inside, the left-hand ground-floor room of the original hall range features a large chamfered spine beam with heavy joists, and an inglenook fireplace. The later 19th-century addition to the right is not of particular architectural interest.
