Description

Church Farmhouse is a timber-frame farmhouse dating from around 1300 with a two-bay addition from the 14th century, a late 17th-century addition, an 18th-century encasing, and a 19th-century alteration. The core is timber-framed, now encased in brick with brick additions, and has an old plain tile roof. The earliest part, located behind the left bay of the front, is an end-on two-bay building from around 1300 with a 14th-century two-bay addition behind. A late 17th-century addition is to the right of this at the front, with an 18th-century addition to the right and behind, forming a parallel range. The front facade, of two storeys and four bays, has slightly projecting end bays. A wide 19th-century porch of timber and glass, with double doors and a flat roof, is centrally located on the right side. The interior includes an 18th-century panelled room on the right bay and original roofs at the left end. A 1300 coupled rafter roof with a cambered tiebeam, horizontal braces across corners, a central spherical truss, and, at the front end, remains of a rare lodged jetty are present. Remains of a smoke gablet are at the other end. There is also a 15th-century crown-post roof.
