Description

This is a row of cottages located in Longstock, dating from the 17th century, with extensions and divisions made in the 18th century. The cottages are timber-framed with brick infill and have a thatched roof. The structure consists of five bays and is one and a half stories high. The left of the center bay retains 17th-century timber, while the center bay has been mainly rebuilt in brick. There is a two-bay 18th-century cottage that projects forward at the right end, and an outshot bay to the left.

The cottages feature planked doors with two-light casements beside them in the left and center bays, and a three-light casement in the bay between. Above the center bay and the bay to the left, there are two-light casements in eyebrow dormers. The projecting right cottage has a central plank door in a solid frame, with an 18th-century two-light leaded iron casement to the left and a 19th-century two-light casement to the right, all with segmental heads. Above, there are two 18th-century two-light leaded casements in eyebrow dormers. The roof sweeps down to the left with wide eaves, and there is a ridge piece with a kink where the ridge line changes for the right cottage. There are stacks at both the left and right ends of the ridge, and a weatherboarded outshot store is located at the right end.
