Description
A row of four cottages dated from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. Three bays to the left are timber-framed with brick infill, while the remainder of the row was refronted in brick during the 18th and 19th centuries. The cottages have a thatched roof with four brick chimneys; the central chimneys are from the 17th and 18th centuries. The cottages are one-and-a-half storeys and six bays long, with two bays to the right set at a slight angle to the rest of the row, and the left bay slightly lower. Four windows set into the thatch have three-light casements; two on the right have leaded outer panes, and the others have 20th-century barred wooden lights. The ground floor windows are irregular two and three-light casements of the 20th century, with two set in what were originally doorways. There are four 20th-century doors, with a thatched hood over the door to number 20. Small 20th-century extensions have been added to the gables and at the rear. The interior of number 22, on the right, retains timber framing, chamfered spine beams, and the first floor of the right bay rests upon heavy 16th-century joists.
