SP 91 NW PITSTONE VICARAGE ROAD

4/147 Barn and projecting side wings to north of Pitstone Green Farmhouse.

Barn with projecting cowshed and stable wings, around 3 sides of farmyard. Barn has 5 C18 bays, extended 3 bays to east c1830. Timber frame and weatherboard, tiled roof. Projecting gabled waggon entries to bays 3 and 7. Lean-to extensions to front of remainder, that to centre open with perches for poultry. C18 bays have trusses with diagonal braces to tie beams, and raking queen posts. Cowshed and stable wings are of c.1830, of pale chequer brick with tiled roofs. Left wing, of one storey, has 3 loose boxes with stable doors and slatted windows, and cowshed with 2 doors, 2 similar windows and manger inside, at N. end. Taller right wing contains stables with hayloft above, and granary at N. end over open shelter for cattle. 3 stable doors, 2 slatted and partly glazed windows, 2 small board doors to left. Cart shed to rear. C20 open shelter to front of barn is not of special interest. Part of Pitstone Green Farm Museum.
