Description

Stanwell House Hotel, located at No. 14 on High Street, is a late 19th-century building featuring a stucco facade with rusticated quoins, an eaves cornice, and a parapet. The slate roof has a coped gable end. The hotel has two doors topped with segmental pediments. It stands two storeys tall, with the first floor showcasing a three-light sash window with a pediment and a canted oriel bay above an arched carriageway entrance. The ground floor includes a three-light bay window with a balustraded parapet above.

Adjacent to it, No. 15 is an early 19th-century structure also made of stucco, featuring a cornice and parapet, along with a string course above the ground floor. This building is three storeys high and has five sash windows with glazing bars. It is complemented by a Doric porch with a triglyph frieze.

Nos. 11 to 18 form a cohesive group, enhanced by the raised pavement and railing in front, as well as Elgar Court, which is located at the rear of No. 18.
