Description
The Richmond Gate Hotel is a Grade II listed building located on Richmond Hill, originally comprising four separate properties that have been combined to form the hotel. Nos 152 and 154 are a late 18th century pair, each three storeys high with an attic and basement. They each have two windows and one dormer, featuring square headed sash windows. The buildings have a slate mansard roof with a parapet and stucco facades, which include a continuous canopied balcony on the first floor supported by columns.
No 156 dates from the late 18th or early 19th century and is four storeys tall with a basement. It is three windows wide and constructed of brick, with a segmental curved front wall that is stuccoed to full height. The windows are square headed and moulded, opening onto a two-storey canopied balcony on the first and second floors. The entrance door features a pilastered doorcase.
No 158 is an extended 18th century building, two storeys high with a basement and fourteen windows wide. It has a hipped slate roof with a modillioned eaves cornice and is entirely stuccoed. The entrance is marked by a Doric portico situated between two 3-light canted bays, with an additional segmental curved bay at the right-hand end of the front. The square headed sash windows have moulded frames that are almost flush with the wall.
