Description

The Banbury Moat House Hotel is a hotel that incorporates a row of houses, situated on a raised terrace set back from Oxford Road. It was built around 1840 to 1850 and features brick construction with a stucco front, slate roofs, and brick end and ridge stacks. The building has two storeys plus attics and basements throughout.

The leftmost houses, Nos. 25 and 27, have a partially rusticated ground floor and a two-storey bay window with a balustrade. They feature sash windows with glazing bars and semi-circular headed windows, similar to those on the first floor, which include some sashes with moulded stone surrounds, cornices, and consoles. The attic also has similar windows, including two dormers with segmental gables. No. 25 is distinguished by a pedimented bay and has wide eaves soffits with moulded bands at the first and second floors.

No. 29 has an entrance accessed by stone steps and features a stone porch with 20th-century doors. The entrance is flanked by sash windows with stone surrounds, and there are three sashes on the first floor and three half-dormers with segmental gables. Flanking pilasters extend through the first and attic floors, and pillars flank the central sashes. It also has a wide eaves soffit.

No. 31 features a central entrance with a Tuscan doorcase, panelled reveals, a four-panelled door, and an overlight. The entrance is flanked by a canted bay window on the right and a sash window on the left. The first floor has three cased stone sashes with glazing bars, with the central sash featuring a cornice on consoles. There are two half-dormers with raking roofs and a wide bracketed eaves soffit. The interiors have not been inspected.
