Description
The Appliance House (Rare Spares) and The Old Malt House (Special Libraries Book Service) is a former malthouse, now used as offices, dating from around 1830. It is constructed of red brick with painted stone dressings and stands two storeys high. The building features a seven-window range that is divided by pilasters. The central bay has a pediment and contains tall 20th-century plank doors with a small window above. On either side of this central bay are three sash windows with glazing bars, some of which have inward pivoting lights. The first floor has a similar arrangement of windows, all with keyblock surrounds. Pilasters flank the end bays, and there is a moulded stone eaves cornice beneath a brick parapet. The building is also known as Austin's malthouse. The interior has not been inspected.
