Description
The presbytery of the Church of St. John the Evangelist was built between 1839 and 1842 and is attributed to Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin. It is constructed of brick with a front of limestone ashlar and features a steeply pitched slate roof with a brick and stone ridge stack. The building has a three-unit plan, stands two storeys plus an attic, and has a three-window range. To the left, there is a two-storey extension that connects the presbytery to the church. The entrance bay on the left is gabled and has a pointed arched entrance leading to a porch. The first floor features a two-light square-headed window, while the right side has two three-light square-headed windows on the first floor, along with two similar windows above. The right gabled bay is topped with a finial and has stone copings. In 1926, a crypt was converted into a men's club.
