Description
Austin House is a former Baptist chapel, now used as offices, built in 1834 with later alterations. The building is constructed of red brick and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with a brick end stack. It stands two storeys high and has a three-window range. The central entrance bay is slightly advanced and includes a porch supported by slender columns, with panelled double doors and a decorated overlight above. There is a single sash window above the entrance that has glazing bars and a stone sill. On the ground floor, to the left and right of the porch, there are sash windows with glazing bars, brick flat arches, and stone sills. The first floor has two similar windows, and all windows are of three-pane width. The basement also contains sash windows with glazing bars. The building is finished with a moulded chamfered cornice. It was erected for Richard Austin, who died in 1840, and the Austin family were notable brewers and Baptists in 19th century Banbury.
