Description
39 South Bar Street is a house, now used as offices, that dates from 1899, as indicated on the rainwater goods. The building is constructed of brick, with a front made of regularly coursed ironstone rubble, and features a steeply pitched plain-tile roof. A clustered stone stack rises from the ridge at the center of the roof. The house has three storeys and a two-window range, designed in the Tudor revival style.
The front elevation includes two gable-fronted bays; the right bay contains the entrance, while the left features a two-storey canted bay window. The recessed entrance on the right has a three-centred arched and panelled door with an overlight above it. To the left, there is a stone-mullioned and transomed window, along with a mullioned and transomed bay window. On the first floor, there are two similar windows. The attic level has two windows with stone mullions; the window on the right includes a king mullion. The building is further adorned with limestone window dressings and quoins, and it is topped with a finial.
The interior has not been inspected, but the building is included in the register for its group value.
