Description
No. 42 South Bar Street is a house, now used as offices, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of stucco and features a hipped slate roof with a brick stack. The building stands three storeys high plus an attic and has a three-window range. The ground floor, which has been altered in the 20th century, is rusticated. A central 20th-century porch is flanked by sash windows with glazing bars. The first floor contains three sash windows with moulded stone frames, two cornices supported by consoles, and a triangular pediment also on consoles. The second floor has three similar windows without consoles, all of which are four-pane wide. Fluted composite columns extend through the second and third floors, and there is a moulded eaves course. The interior was remodelled in the 20th century.
