Description
CASTLE STREET 1. 5231 (West Side) Portchester No 169 (St Vincent) No 171 (St Vincent Cottage) (Formerly listed as SU 6204 11/220 18.10.55. St Vincent) II GV 2. Centre section probably C18 but wings added and whole building re-roofed as one in early C19. 1 building now 2 dwellings. Painted brick. String course at 1st floor height. Wide bracketed eaves, slate roof. 2 storeys. 5 windows in all. 2 late C18/early C19 bay windows with cornices ground floor. All sashes with glazing bars, all, except bays, with exposed frames. Centre door with pediment, pilasters and advanced radial fanlight, 6 panelled door. Side facade (part of No 171), flint with red brick dressings and late C18/early C19 casements. Rear wing stretches back from here. 2 storeys but lower height than front of building. Nos 169 to 175 (odd), gate and railings at No 169 and the street boundary wall at No 171 form a group with Nos 162 to 174 (even) including the street boundary wall at No 194, Nos 182 to 190 (even) and No 196. (Nos 175 and 196 are buildings of local interest).
