Description
Myrtle Cottage is a 18th-century building located on Castle Street in Portchester. The facade is roughcast with a brick eaves cornice and features an old tiled roof with an end chimney. The cottage is 2 and a half storeys tall and has three windows along with two dormers that have hipped roofs. The windows are sashes with cambered head linings and late 19th-century glazing, while the ground floor has later 19th-century bays with unbarred sashes. A centrally located glazed porch, also from the late 19th century, adds to the entrance. Myrtle Cottage is part of a group that includes Nos 162 to 174 (even), the street boundary wall at No 174, Nos 182 to 190 (even), and No 196, as well as Nos 169 to 175 (odd), the railings and gate at No 169, and the street boundary wall at No 171. Notably, No 175 and No 196 are recognized as buildings of local interest.
