Description
Dovercroft is an 18th-century house that was altered in the 19th century, located on Castle Street in Portchester. The building is constructed of red brick and features a brick eaves cornice along with an old tiled mansard roof. It has a three-bay façade, with the central section slightly advanced and gabled. The house is two and a half storeys tall, with one hipped dormer and three windows, although the centre window on the first floor is blank. On the south side, there are large arched wooden double doors. The side façade includes an 18th-century pedimented doorcase with a moulded architrave, and it has six-panelled doors, with the top two now glazed. There is also a 19th-century style casement window added on both floors. Dovercroft is part of a group that includes Nos 162 to 174 (even), the street boundary wall at No 174, Nos 182 to 190 (even), and No 196, along with Nos 169 to 175 (odd), the railings and gate at No 169, and the street boundary wall at No 171. Notably, No 175 and No 196 are buildings of local interest.
