Description
Bowery Cottage, located at 188 Castle Street in Portchester, is an 18th-century building. The facade is made of red and grey brick, accented with rubbed red brick dressings, and it features an old tiled roof. The cottage has two storeys and two sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor includes a square bay window with glazing bars and a central sash, which likely served as a former shop window. There is also a side window positioned under a cornice. To the north, the entrance is located at the end of No 186, where double doors with Gothic arched panels have been inserted behind a timber arch. Bowery Cottage is part of a group of buildings that includes Nos 162 to 174 (even), the street boundary wall at No 174, Nos 182 to 190 (even), and No 196, along with Nos 169 to 175 (odd), the railings and gate at No 169, and the street boundary wall at No 171. Notably, No 175 and No 196 are recognized as buildings of local interest.
