Description
Nos 1 and 3 on High Street are 18th century buildings with earlier origins. They are two storeys high and feature a long range of five windows, with a central carriage archway on the ground floor. Although there is evidence of timber-framing, the facade is primarily constructed of brickwork. The roof is covered with red tiles and is hipped at the corner with Church Lane, while the eaves are adorned with red brick dentils. The walls are made of blue header bricks with red flush dressings around the openings, which include cambered arches on the ground floor and a high plinth, as well as a lower projecting plinth. The first floor windows consist of old sliding casements. At the west end, there is a 25-light sash window, followed by a modern shop window and two modern bow windows, all with cills cut below the top of the plinth. Above the large cambered arch in the center, there is an old lead fire insurance sign. The side walls within the arch are timber-framed, indicating a 17th century origin.
