Description

Cobbett's Cottage is an early 19th-century cottage and stable block, part of William Cobbett’s former estate. The cottage, positioned alongside the road, is two storeys high and has a side elevation facing the lane. It features one window and a blocked doorway, with three windows on its south facade. The cottage has a slate hipped roof with brick dentil eaves and slate-hung walls, along with sash and casement windows. Adjacent to the cottage is a taller, symmetrical stable block. This block stands two storeys high and has one window on either side of a projecting gabled centrepiece. The centrepiece has one window above a ground floor doorway which is flanked by smaller windows. The stable block has a red tile, hipped roof with a central gable and dentil eaves. The walls are in Flemish bond brickwork, with red stretchers and blue headers, and features round-headed openings on the first floor. The stable block is of a similar style to the cottage, and both structures retain their historic connection.
