Description
The Market Hall, located at No. 11 on Botley High Street, was built in 1848. The front of the building is made of Portland stone and features a tetra-style portico in the Tuscan order, topped with a high pediment. The entablature extends along the side to the pilaster of the inner wall, which has a platform base. The central doorway is concealed by a projecting block from 1897, which includes a panel above it. On either side of the doorway, there is a window with a moulded architrave that has "ear" treatment. A timber clock turret, also from 1897, commemorating the Diamond Jubilee, is set back from the main façade. Behind this façade, the hall is a simple brick structure with a slate roof. The Market Hall is a notable landmark in the centre of Botley.
