Description
Nos 5 and 7 South Street are 18th century buildings with a façade of painted brick. They feature a slate roof with coped gable ends and chimneys located off centre and at the south end. The buildings stand three storeys high and have three windows, with the centres of the first and second floors being blank. The first-floor blank area includes a segmental arch with a keystone. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and moulded boxed frames. There are two 19th century shop fronts that have cornice architraves and consoles adorned with floral designs. Each shop front has a northern side door with arched panels, and the southern shop window retains its vertical glazing bars.
Inside No 7, there are some exposed beams, which are now boxed, and a 17th century staircase, although all but one section of the balustrade is also boxed.
