Description

Nos 5 and 7 Low Pavement is an 18th-century double pile house. The western two bays are rendered, while the eastern bay is painted brick. The facade is symmetrical, with the center bay slightly advanced. It features a parapet with a moulded cornice and a slate roof with coped gable ends and end chimneys. The building has three storeys and three windows; the top storey windows are semi-circular lunettes, with the eastern one having a lower sill. The first floor showcases Venetian windows, while the eastern windows are sashes with some remaining glazing bars. The western windows have diagonal glazing bars, likely added in the 19th century.

On the ground floor, there are two advanced shop fronts. No 5 features fluted pilasters, shop windows with segmental arched lights, and arches with glazing bars. The center door has a similar arched fanlight. The interior is notable for its Art Nouveau tiled walls, moulded green tiled cornices, and panels adorned with floral tiles and swags. The floor is tiled in black and white, and some mahogany cased shelves remain, with a band of lettered tiles above displaying the original firm's motto.

No 7's shop front has a curved western end and includes two shop windows, with the eastern one retaining a large sash. An entablature with a moulded cornice, frieze, and architrave runs above. There is a pierced cast iron ventilation panel, and the center features double doors with a plain fanlight. The rear of the building has a stone plinth and quoins.
