Description
No. 9 Low Pavement is a building dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It projects into the street approximately 3 feet beyond the upper storeys of Nos. 5 and 7. The facade is made of painted brick and features a slate roof. On the western side, there is one window on four storeys, with sashes that have moulded boxed frames and glazing bars. The ground floor includes a segmental carriageway arch leading to Theatre Yard. The eastern side of the facade has three storeys that match the height of the western side, with sashes featuring late 19th-century glazing and engraved lintels with keystones. The shop front, altered in the 19th century, includes fluted consoles and panelled pilasters, with some arched glazing bars remaining. Above the western arched door, there is a pierced cast iron band, a cornice, and a plain fanlight. At the rear of the eastern side, there is a coursed stone wing with a rear gable made of red brick above the eaves. The facade has been stuccoed and grooved to simulate masonry. The roof is not visible. The building has three storeys and generally features two windows with sashes that have glazing bars, as well as a door and a blocked-up door.
