Description
The Lodge is an early 19th-century lodge located on the Alton Road (A31) in Bentley. It features rendered walls and a hipped slate roof with a central brick ridge stack. The building is single storey with projecting eaves over a simple cornice. At the entrance front, which faces the drive leading to Northbrook House and Farm, there are six bays, each with a tall round arched recess. The first and third bays are blank, while the second, fourth, and sixth bays contain recessed arched sash windows with glazing bars. The fifth bay has an arched entrance doorway beneath an open porch, which has a lean-to roof supported by bracketed posts, with sides screened by open panels featuring slender diagonal cross bracing. The door is a vertical board type with cover strips, and there are sash windows with bars on the end elevations. A rear extension of similar materials is present under parallel roofs.
