Description
SU 45 NE ECCHINSWELL & SYDMONTON SYDMONTON 7/40 Sydmonton Farmhouse
II
C18, C19. Double range of 2 storeys, with a symmetrical front (north) of 1.4.1 windows. Hipped tile roof, brick dentil eaves. Red brick walling in Flemish bond with blue headers, first floor band, rubbed flat arches, stone cills, plinth. Victorian sashes in reveals (some openings filled with brickwork), 2 narrow lights flanking the doorway at the second bay of the recessed centre. Mid C19 open timber-framed porch on a brick base, with gabled front and tiled roof. The east elevation is similar, being symmetrical of 3 windows, the outer of 3 lights. The rear (south) elevation is older with a lower eaves, except for the eastern unit (which matches the east elevation); English bond brickwork, 3 gabled half dormers, one ground-floor casement, a large brick porch with a 'Tudor' arch, and a large bay at the east side with a hipped tile roof and a 3-light sash. The west end shows the irregular joining of the earlier and later parts, the north side being a return of the north elevation and the south (slightly-recessed) having a massive external tapered stack. Some of the interior walling is sandstone, indicating that the north elevation is a refacing.
