Description

Sydmonton Farmhouse is a building from the 18th and 19th centuries, featuring a double range of two storeys with a symmetrical front on the north side that has four windows. It has a hipped tile roof and brick dentil eaves. The walls are made of red brick in Flemish bond with blue headers, a first-floor band, rubbed flat arches, stone cills, and a plinth. The windows are Victorian sashes set in reveals, with some openings filled with brickwork. There are two narrow lights flanking the doorway at the second bay of the recessed centre. A mid-19th century open timber-framed porch sits on a brick base, featuring a gabled front and a tiled roof.

The east elevation is similar, symmetrical with three windows, the outer ones being three lights. The rear (south) elevation is older, with lower eaves, except for the eastern unit, which matches the east elevation. This elevation features English bond brickwork, three gabled half dormers, one ground-floor casement, a large brick porch with a 'Tudor' arch, and a large bay on the east side with a hipped tile roof and a three-light sash. The west end shows the irregular joining of the earlier and later parts, with the north side being a return of the north elevation and the south side, which is slightly recessed, having a massive external tapered stack. Some of the interior walling is sandstone, indicating that the north elevation has been refaced.
