Description

The Former Old Burghclere Village School, now an activity centre, was built in 1913 by architect Francis Bacon. This single-storey building is constructed of Flemish bond red brick with tile-hung gables and features a clay plain tile roof with half-hipped and gableted ends.

The north front is asymmetrical with three bays, including a large tile-hung gabled dormer on the left that has a three-light window. The central section has a lower hipped roof with a five-light window, while the right side features a large four-light mullion-transom window, all fitted with leaded panes. The west end also has a large tile-hung gabled dormer in a gableted roof. The rear south side mirrors this with a similar gable on the left, above a three-light window and a later 20th-century door below. In the centre, there is a large projecting lateral stack with weathered set-offs and a recessed round arch at its base, alongside a large four-light mullion-transom window, all with leaded panes. The east end features a tile-hung half-hipped gable.

Inside, the two classrooms are open to a king-post roof and are separated by panelled folding partition doors.
