Description
The farm stable at Sydmonton Farm is a building that dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century for the central part, with the north and south ends added in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick, featuring English bond in the central section and rat trap bond at the north end, with some blocks of clunch on the inner face. The roof is hipped and tiled, with a hipped tiled dormer that has a boarded opening.
The central part includes two pivoting 19th-century sash windows and a central cambered doorcase with a Dutch door. The south end is of lower elevation and has two pivoting sashes, while the north end features a cambered entrance. Inside, there is a wooden manger and hay rack on the north side, along with two stalls. The harness room contains reused 17th-century panelling and wooden saddle hooks, likely brought from Sydmonton Court during its 19th-century modernization. The flooring consists of flint and cobbles, with brick drainage channels located at the rear of the stalls. The structure also includes three stop-chamfered axial beams with run-out stops and staggered purlins.
