Description

Manor House is a mid 14th century aisled hall featuring two large bays and reconstructed crossings. At the south end, there is a mid 15th century, four-bay solar wing that is two storeys high, which has been extended on the south side with an early 19th century gabled range. The north end includes a service wing that is also two storeys and consists of three bays, topped with a 16th century gabled roof and an added gabled range from the late 18th century. The roofing is tiled, characterized by a tall, massive center that transitions to low eaves with later gabled treatment, and features brick verges, some of which display a dentilled pattern. The east gable of the north wing is constructed of stone, with red brick quoins, while most of the other walls, dating from the mid 19th century, are made of brindle or blue brickwork in header or Flemish bond, accented with red dressings. The windows are predominantly Victorian sashes. The west entrance is marked by a mid 19th century Gothic porch, while the east side showcases an 18th century, two-storeyed gabled projection that has a window above a plain doorway, along with a six-panelled door. Within this entrance is a 14th century stone doorway, featuring a pointed arch with two orders of splayed jambs. Inside, there are two 18th century staircases and original roof timbers, with the former hall having had a floor inserted in the late 16th or early 17th century.
