Description
This is a gas lighting column, later converted to electricity, located at the top of the steps to the north-west of No. 6 Exmouth Place. It dates from the later 19th century and was originally part of the Hastings and District Gas Lighting Company.
The column is made of cast iron and features a tapering fluted design, standing about 2.5 meters high. It has two decorative bands, a tulip-shaped top, and a moulded octagonal base. At the top, there is a replacement bracket that supports a late 20th-century electric light.
