Lamp post next to 3 Dean Trench Street and outside 36 Smith Square

This gas street light, located next to 3 Dean Trench Street and outside 36 Smith Square, is an ornate cast iron lamp post likely from the late 19th century, featuring a Grosvenor-type lantern that was probably added around 1930.

The lamp post has a decorative column with acanthus leaves at the base and floral mouldings, topped by the Grosvenor lantern. The square tapered base of the column includes an oval plaque numbered 6350 and has two ladder bars. The lantern itself is circular, with tapered and curved glazing panels held by metal glazing bars. It is adorned with a decorative, perforated fret and an ogee finial at the top. Inside the lantern, there is a six-mantle inverted burner, a Horstmann 14 day clockwork time controller, and a steel reflector. The lantern is mounted on a three-legged frog that is attached to the collar of the column.
