Description
The lamp post outside 26 Maunsel Street is a gas street light featuring an Eddystone column that dates back to 1910, topped with a Grosvenor-type lantern likely from the early to mid-20th century.
The lamp post is made of cast iron, and the lantern is constructed from iron, spun copper, and enamelled steel, with a decorative fret around the top that is probably made of cast lead. The column is tapering and fluted, with one ladder rest. On one side of the base, the Westminster City Council crest is embossed, while the opposite side displays the royal cypher G V R along with the date 1910.
The lantern itself is circular, featuring tapered and curved glazing panels held by metal glazing bars. It is topped with a decorative, perforated fret and an ogee finial. Inside the lantern, there is a six-mantle inverted burner, a Horstmann 14 day clockwork time controller, and a steel reflector. The lantern is mounted on a three-legged frog that is attached to the collar of the column.
