Description
The lamp post outside Astral House on Maunsel Street is a gas street light, likely from the early to mid-20th century. It features a cast iron lamp post in a tapering 'Brompton' style, adorned with agapanthus leaves at both the base and top. The post is topped with a Grosvenor-type lantern. At the base of the column, there is an oval plaque numbered 6477.
The lantern itself is circular, with tapered and curved glazing panels held by metal glazing bars. It is finished with a decorative, perforated fret and an ogee finial at the top. Inside the lantern, there is a six-mantle inverted burner, a Horstmann 14-day clockwork time controller, and a steel reflector. The lantern is mounted on a three-legged frog that is attached to the collar of the column.
